Thaiwoo opened in December 2015 in the Chongli district, some 25 kilometres east of the town, and in 2022 became one of the Beijing Olympic venues. Its name translates roughly as "dance with nature". The area is young and still small, four lifts, but the terrain divides evenly across the levels with a third of it black. A stretch of the Great Wall runs nearby and is visible from the slope.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for grooming: pistes are packed so evenly that moguls do not appear even by mid-afternoon, and the lifts and snow machinery are modern, imported from Europe and North America. The spread of runs rates well - wide learning fields alongside a couple of genuinely steep blacks. The base village is compact, with hotels, rental shops and restaurants close together and a popular resort brewhouse. Weekdays are near empty.
Lift speed draws criticism. Both the gondola and the chairs crawl, and the upper chair serving the advanced side has its carriers spaced too far apart. The longest uninterrupted descent is roughly three kilometres, thin for a full day. The snow is almost entirely man-made. On weekends and Chinese public holidays queues stretch to one or two hours. Ticket prices are called steep and the village still looks unfinished.
