This article, however, focuses on the resort's winter sports activities.
History and the present day
More than half a century ago, a training base for the Olympic reserve for children and teenagers was established near the village of Shchukolovo in Moscow Oblast. It was headed by Leonid Tyagatchev. The base has produced more than one generation of Olympians. Many well-known Russian skiers had their first experience on the slopes of Shchukolovo. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the base was neither forgotten nor abandoned. Instead, it was transformed into the Leonid Tyagatchev ski resort. The ban on outside visitors was lifted, and now anyone can try their hand at skiing. Many members of the Russian national teams in snowboarding, slalom and other winter sports still train here.
Where the ski resort is located
The ski resort is located in the northern part of Moscow Oblast. It is easy to reach. If you are driving, simply leave Moscow via Dmitrovskoye Highway. After 40 km, you will see a sign for the village of Shchukolovo and the Leonid Tyagatchev Ski Club. The resort can also be reached by public transport. The Tyagatchev Leisure Centre is well known to local residents. It has been open since 2001, all year round. For many Muscovites, it has become a favourite destination for winter and summer holidays.

Where to ski at the resort

In winter, the lake on the complex grounds becomes an excellent ice rink. Those who prefer cross-country skiing will find a suitable groomed trail. Consistent snow cover and level terrain make it possible to use modern specialised equipment for maintenance. As a result, the ski season lasts a long time - from November to May. The longest run is 500 m. The vertical drop is 100 m. The pistes are serviced by seven lifts.
