Shukolovo carries the name of Leonid Tyagachev, the national team coach under whom this base in the Dmitrov district outside Moscow grew up. The vertical is fifty metres, but there are thirteen lifts and the hill is divided into many short teaching runs: generations of Muscovites first put on skis here. Almost all the skiing is easy, the snow is manmade, and Moscow is about an hour away.

What visitors say about the resort
Weekdays get the praise: few people about, almost no lift queues, and cheap skiing - one review mentions three hours for seven hundred roubles. By the standards of the Moscow region there are plenty of slopes and lifts, and the runs are kept in working order because national teams train here. Cafes and toilets on the slopes are mentioned as a plus.
The gripe is that a guest does not get the whole hill: part of the slopes is taken by race club training and part is blocked by hoses and snow guns. The chairlift is described as unsafe and the run under the drag lifts as neglected. At weekends people queue fifteen to twenty minutes and struggle to find a parking space. Staff attract remarks too, with employees seen smoking right beside the lift line.
