Baqueira Beret sits in the Val d'Aran, the only valley in Spain that faces north towards the Atlantic rather than the Mediterranean. That accounts for the snow: fronts arrive off the ocean, and the season usually opens in November and holds to the end of April, long by Pyrenean standards. Most of the terrain lies above the tree line on open ridges, and there is a second entrance beyond the Bonaigua pass. The resort has long been the most fashionable in Spain - the royal family skis here, and the villages of the Val d'Aran are built accordingly.

Reviews describe Baqueira/Beret as Spain's best resort, with more than 150 km of pistes in the Aran Valley, modern lifts and snow conditions unusual for the Pyrenees, as Atlantic fronts reach here first. The valley's food scene is also highly praised.
The main complaints are the long journey from any airport and expensive accommodation in Baqueira itself, so many visitors stay in Vielha and take the bus. Visitors also mention wind that can close the upper lifts, as well as crowds during Spanish holidays.
