Bardonecchia is a ski resort in the Piemonte region (Italy). Gentle runs predominate, so the resort suits beginners and families with children.
Worth knowing
The ski area rises from 1,300 to 2,800 m, with a vertical drop of 1,500 m. This vertical drop allows you to ski from top to bottom without changing lifts and noticeably changes the conditions during the descent. The upper pistes are high, so the snow lasts longer than on the neighbouring lower slopes. The season usually runs from 5 December to 11 April.

What visitors say about the resort
Value is the headline: coffee and food on the mountain cost about half what they would in France, and the price-quality balance is rated highly. Weekdays are quiet with barely any queueing, and the views from the top of both sectors are called some of the finest around. Speed-minded skiers enjoy the reds on Jafferau, and the spread of runs is considered well balanced. Free buses linking Campo Smith, Melezet, Les Arnauds and Jafferau come with the lift pass.
The dated lift stock draws criticism: plenty of drags, a couple of two-seat chairs, and reviewers say outright that the area needs investment. The long button lifts get described as a slog. The split layout hurts too: the two sectors are not linked by piste. At weekends and during holidays the town fills up and the queues become constant. Apres-ski and nightlife are rated weak by Alpine standards.
