Chäserrugg - Unterwasser/Alt St. Johann (Toggenburg)

Visitors praise the grooming, which one trip report calls absolutely perfect, and the 360-degree panorama from the summit across the Rhine valley. Most pistes are red, freeriders get marked ski routes, the gentler slopes around Iltios work well for learning, and Alt St. Johann runs a floodlit piste. The parking right by the ticket office is appreciated, as is the historic 1934 funicular alongside the modern summit cable car.

The Chaeserrugg cable car is criticised for its limited capacity, running only about every half hour. A bigger grievance is the long-running dispute between the lift companies and neighbouring Wildhaus, which leaves the area with no joint pass and no connecting piste, splitting the region in two. A four-hour pass at 59 francs is called steep, the mountain restaurants are described as very expensive and poor value, and snow low down near 1200 m degrades fast.
