Chäserrugg - Unterwasser/Alt St. Johann (Toggenburg)

The Toggenburg ski resort connects the venerable winter sports villages of Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann. Below Chäserrugg (2262 m), there are slopes for carving, freeride pistes and a fun park for freestyle skiers. The winter sports area opposite the seven peaks of the Churfirsten range also offers snowshoe trails, toboggan runs, cross-country trails and winter hiking routes. The Toggenburg ski resort is about an hour's drive from Lake Constance and Zurich.

Good to know

The slopes in Toggenburg are mostly intermediate. There are practice areas for beginners, some challenging pistes for experienced skiers and freeride pistes. The views from the slopes of Chäserrugg and Gamserrugg over the Rhine Valley and towards Säntis are impressive.

Features

This ski resort has several long pistes. The Galfer route is 9 km long and covers 1600 vertical metres. It runs from Gamserrugg to Grabs in the Rhine Valley.

There is a descent to the valley. Valley runs lead to Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann.

Longest run

The longest descent here is the Chäserrugg east descent Schwendi-Unterwasser, 7.9 km long, with a vertical drop of 1352 m.

Hardest run

The most challenging run is the Sureboden slope, 1 km long, with a vertical drop of 250 m.

Night skiing

Night skiing is available at the ski resort.

From the villages of Unterwasser (1090 m), Wildhaus (910 m) and Alt St. Johann (900 m), a detachable lift, funicular and combination lift lead to the Toggenburg ski resort. The ski resort also has additional high-speed detachable lifts, as well as numerous surface lifts. At the popular Chäserrugg (2262 m), an aerial tramway with limited capacity and a new 10-person gondola from Espel above Stöfeli operate (since the 2015/2015 season). Once at the summit, visitors are rewarded with an unforgettable view.
