Krummenau - Wolzenalp/Toggenburg

The praise is for a family secret spot in the Toggenburg: the area is small, but the pistes are varied and genuinely demanding, mostly red with a couple of harder sections, so confident skiers come here for a weekend too. Low prices, welcoming staff and a learning area with a magic carpet all get mentioned. A drag lift running for half a century adds character, with attendants still helping riders onto it. Winter walking trails and a toboggan run cover the non-skiers.

The main criticism is scale: a day or two is about all the place offers, and the lift fleet amounts to one chair and a pair of drags. Its real weakness is altitude, since the valley descent is far from always open and reviewers describe the snow as unreliable, so a visit has to be timed to the weather. Very little is written about Wolzenalp online, which makes it hard to know what to expect before arriving.
