Evolène is a ski resort in the Valais region (Switzerland). Most of the skiing is on intermediate runs - a profile that suits most skiers.
Worth knowing
The ski area rises from 1,407 to 2,680 m, with a vertical drop of 1,273 m. This vertical drop allows you to ski from top to bottom without changing lifts and noticeably changes the conditions during the descent. The upper pistes are high, so the snow lasts longer than on the neighbouring lower slopes. The season usually runs from 26 December to 21 March.

What visitors say about the resort
Reviewers value the quiet above all: while Verbier is packed, the Val d'Herens stays almost empty. Off-piste is the other draw, with untracked lines between the long upper traverse and the bottom of the drag lifts, and heli-skiing operates in the area. The village is a working settlement rather than a resort, with traditional taverns serving genuine local food, and prices sit well below those of the big Valais neighbours.
The lift system is what draws criticism. Access from the valley is on a very old and slow two-seat chair, and higher up almost everything rests on drag lifts, so the setup is called basic even for a small Swiss area. The vertical is generous, but the run back to the valley is a tedious benched track and hardly anyone bothers with it before the end of the day. Overall this is a place for confident skiers - beginners will find little here.
