Thyon 2000 is a ski resort in the Valais region (Switzerland). Gentle runs predominate, so the resort suits beginners and families with children.
Worth knowing
The ski area rises from 1,300 to 2,700 m, with a vertical drop of 1,400 m. This vertical drop allows you to ski from top to bottom without changing lifts and noticeably changes the conditions as you descend. The upper pistes are at high altitude, so the snow lasts longer than on the nearby lower slopes. The season usually runs from 4 December to 11 April.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for cheap access to a big area: the Quatre Vallees opens up from here, while lodging and lift passes cost far less than in Verbier and the crowds are a fraction of the size. The slopes are wide and sunny, beginners have room to spread out, competent skiers get enough blues and reds, and large off-piste fields sit alongside. Snow cannons cover nearly the whole sector, so the runs hold into spring.
The lifts draw the criticism: the sector runs mostly on drag lifts, the installations are dated, and the slopes beneath them are sometimes too steep and icy to ride a tow calmly. The link to the rest of the Quatre Vallees depends on low-capacity surface tows, so the trip to Verbier and back eats a serious part of the day. The village is a cluster of apartment blocks with no charm, apres-ski and restaurants are almost absent, and evenings are quiet to the point of boredom.
