Reviewers rate the two modern eight-seat gondolas rising from Mauterndorf and St. Michael, and above all the long valley descents - the sunny run down to St. Michael gets singled out. Because the place stays quiet, the grooming is said to hold far longer into the day than at busier neighbours, and full snowmaking backs it up. Families get plenty of attention: nursery lifts, a magic carpet, ski school from age three. Hut food is reckoned cheaper than at comparable Austrian areas.
What gets marked down is the complete absence of a snowpark and the shortage of beds directly at the slopes, which pushes guests into the valley. Expert and freeride scores are no better than average, so strong skiers find the choice thin, and apres-ski is rated modest. Several visitors add that once cloud moves in the upper mountain fogs over and the views that sell the place vanish.
