Katschberg sits right on the pass carrying the border between Salzburg and Carinthia, with skiing spread over two mountains either side: the Aineck and the Tschaneck. The Tauern motorway exit leads straight to the lifts - a rare case of a slope minutes from the autobahn. The pistes are almost all intermediate, wide and even in pitch, and snowmaking covers every metre. St. Margarethen in the Lungau below is tied into the area, and the longest run from the Aineck down to it stretches six kilometres.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the snow and the families: snowmaking is total, the piste condition is called among the best in Carinthia, and the children's park and nursery meadows among the best in the Eastern Alps. There are many reds and they are wide, so an intermediate progresses fast here. Queues barely happen. The Aineck side has blacks too, including the Direttissima from the summit and a six-kilometre descent into the Lungau.
The narrowness draws criticism: confident skiers tire of the area quickly, and the Aineck runs are long and heavy going for small children. Snowboarders are offered almost nothing, with no park and no marked off-piste. Prices, meanwhile, are high for an area this size.
