Kitzsteinhorn/Maiskogel - Kaprun

The link between the Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn ski areas will open in December 2019.

Kitzsteinhorn: Kitzsteinhorn near Kaprun is legendary: it is Austria's first glacier ski resort. The only glacier lifts in Salzburg province are open for skiing from October to July. With the opening of the Gletscherjet 3 + 4 lifts in the 2015/2016 season and the Schmiedingerbahn lift in the 2016/2017 season, the resort's lift system was improved again, and waiting times have finally become a thing of the past. Beginners will feel at home on the many easy slopes in this winter sports area, while advanced skiers can find a real challenge on the Black Mamba. Kitzsteinhorn is also known as a freeride hotspot.

Maiskogel: The Maiskogel winter sports area offers skiing for everyone, from beginners to experts. The base station of the new MK Maiskogelbahn lift is located next to the entrance to Kaprun and takes winter sports enthusiasts comfortably to the centre of this family-friendly ski resort. Maiskogel is an ideal ski resort for families and all winter sports enthusiasts who appreciate gentle terrain, proximity to the village and traditional, cosy mountain huts.

Kitzsteinhorn: slopes of all difficulty levels can be found on Kitzsteinhorn. From wide, easy glacier pistes to very steep slopes, there is something for everyone here.

Maiskogel: Maiskogel has many very wide and easy slopes, making it ideal for families, beginners and ski schools. In the upper section, you can choose an easy, intermediate or difficult slope. At the middle station, there are easy runs served by a button lift. The valley run from the middle station to Kaprun is very wide and easy.

Longest runs

The longest run here is Kitzsteinhorn summit-Langwiedboden, 5 km long, with a vertical drop of 1051 m.

Pistes 31 and 33 (Almbahn-Kaprun base station). Length: 7 km. Vertical drop: 962 m. From the Almbahn mountain station, you ski the entire length straight down into the valley at Kaprun.

Most difficult run

The most difficult run is Black Mamba (No. 14), 1 km long, with a vertical drop of 290 m. Black Mamba has a gradient of up to 63% and is therefore very steep. The run starts at the base station of the Kristallbahn lift and ends at Langwiedboden.

Snowparks

The resort snowpark has 10 jumps, rails and boxes - 4. There is a beginner line, and a halfpipe is available. According to the resort's official website.

Skiline.

Kitzsteinhorn: Very modern lifts transport skiers up Kitzsteinhorn. Modern lifts take you quickly from the valley to Langwied and onwards to the Alpincenter. In the 2015/2016 season, Gletscherjet 3, a combined lift, and Gletscherjet 4, a 10-person gondola lift, were introduced, running from Alpincenter to the glacier. Due to technical limitations on the glacier, there are mainly drag lifts. With the opening of the Schmiedingerbahn lift in the 2016/2017 season, Salzburg's highest lift now reaches 2775 m. The 8-person chairlift is high-speed detachable and has weather protection covers and heated seats. There are additional modern chairlifts with covers, some with heated seats, around Alpincenter. A 2-person chairlift serves the snowpark for repeated runs.

Maiskogel: The MK Maiskogelbahn lift began operating directly in Kaprun in December 2018. This modern 10-person gondola lift provides a two-section connection to the family-friendly Maiskogel ski resort. From December 2019, the 3K Maiskogel-Langwied lift will run from the mountain station to Kitzsteinhorn. On Maiskogel, the Almbahn lift still runs slightly higher than the 10-person gondola lift. The 6-person chairlift has weather protection. At the middle station of the MK Maiskogelbahn lift, there is a button lift that takes you to the beginners' area.
