Le Grand Massif - Flaine/Les Carroz/Morillon/Samoëns/Sixt

Five villages - Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval - are linked into one area above the Giffre valley. One run alone is worth the trip: Les Cascades starts at the Grandes Platières station and drops fourteen kilometres, losing around 1,700 metres, finishing at Sixt, from where a ski bus brings you back. Flaine also stands apart visually - the village was built in the late 1960s to designs by Marcel Breuer, concrete modernism set straight onto the mountainside. The Flaine sector lies above the tree line; the rest is mostly below it.
