The Les Crosets ski resort has been one of the largest in the world for more than 50 years. The area has 12 stations in total, located between France and Switzerland and just an hour's drive from Geneva.

Overall, most pistes are served by high-speed four- and six-seater chairlifts. Fast gondolas or chairlifts lead from the valley villages to the ski resort. Naturally, there are still many J-bar lifts, as is common in France, but you do not have to use them. Modern chairlifts are available instead. With one exception in Champéry, none of the lifts have bubbles. Les Gets, Avoriaz, Châtel, Champéry and, partly, Les Gets have invested in new, high-performance lifts in recent years. In Morgins, Champoussin and Torgon, you will find older lifts.

What visitors say about the resort

Les Portes du Soleil is praised for its scale and the chance to ski between two countries, with around 600 km of pistes on both sides of the Franco-Swiss border. Visitors highlight Morzine for its lively town and Avoriaz for its ski-in, ski-out access.

The main drawback is the altitude: much of the area lies below 2,000 m, and in warm winters the links between sectors close. The other issue is time spent travelling: you cannot cover the whole area in a day, and you need to make sure you get back to your own village by evening. Visitors also complain about queues on the "Wall" at Châtel.
