What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the access it buys: the nine-seat detachable Ardent gondola, installed in 2010, runs straight up to the hamlet of Les Lindarets, and from there the whole high sector of Avoriaz, the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil and Châtel open up. There is a large free car park at the bottom station. Les Lindarets, with its famous goats, is valued as a lunch stop on the pistes, and Montriond stays a quiet village minutes from Morzine.
The evenings draw criticism. Apres-ski is described as weak, with little to do after skiing, and picking up bread or groceries means driving down to Montriond proper or over to Morzine. Some chalets cannot be reached by car at all. The village has no skiing of its own: everything hangs on the Ardent gondola and the shuttle buses, so the lift timetable dictates the day. In summer the road to Les Lindarets is closed to cars by day.
