Leukerbad is a ski resort in the Valais region (Switzerland). The notable share of difficult runs makes it appealing to confident skiers and freeriders.

The ski area rises from 1,411 to 2,610 m, with a vertical drop of 1,199 m. This allows skiers to descend from top to bottom without changing lifts and means conditions change noticeably during the run. The upper pistes are at high altitude, so snow lasts longer than on the nearby lower slopes. The season usually runs from 12 December to 11 April.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for a combination that barely exists elsewhere: skiing by day and the largest thermal baths in the Alps in the evening. Many guests come for the water rather than the snow, so the Torrent slopes stay uncrowded even in high season. The pistes are credited with careful grooming and a panorama over the Valais four-thousanders, while the Gemmi side is prized by ski tourers and cross-country skiers.
Size draws the criticism: the ski area is small and will not fill a week unless you leave the marked runs. Up top there are plenty of drag lifts, wearing after resorts built around chairs. Beginners are poorly served, with essentially one blue run in the main sector. Access is the other headache: the village cable car runs to a sparse timetable, the morning bus to its station fills so completely that people let one or two go, and waits of around forty-five minutes have been reported.
