Levi stands in Finnish Lapland, a hundred kilometres beyond the Arctic Circle, with the skiing on a treeless fell above the village of Sirkka. The vertical is tiny, around three hundred metres, but there are more than twenty lifts and the season runs from October into May - the longest in Europe outside the glaciers. November traditionally opens the World Cup slalom season here, and by custom the winner is presented with a live reindeer. In December and January the sun never clears the horizon, so a good share of the runs is floodlit.

Levi is praised for its infrastructure: Finland's largest resort has modern lifts, evening lighting on half the pistes and a village with plenty to do after skiing. Visitors also highlight the long season - from November to May - and the Northern Lights.
Criticisms include the small vertical drop of around 300 m, short pistes and a lack of variety for confident skiers. Another drawback is the polar night in December, when there are only a few hours of daylight. Visitors also complain about wind and freezing temperatures on the exposed summit.
