Mechi Chal is the home mountain of the town of Chepelare in the Rhodopes, with just two lifts: a fast quad with a mid-station and a nursery tow. The runs follow forest cuttings, all easy or intermediate, the longest nearly five kilometres. Snowmaking is thin, covering a quarter of the kilometres. A ski bus runs to neighbouring Pamporovo. Chepelare gave Bulgarian sport Ekaterina Dafovska, the country's first Olympic biathlon champion.

What visitors say about the resort
Value for money is what visitors praise: the day pass is among the cheapest in Bulgaria while the skiing itself is substantial. The four-seater chairlift runs from the town to the summit in about nine minutes and virtually never has a queue, since the crowds head to neighbouring Pamporovo. The pistes are wide, cut through forest and sheltered from wind, and grooming is consistently good. Lift staff get a specific mention.
Thin on-mountain service draws criticism: there are only three restaurants and they are very basic, while the toilets are called extremely basic. Beginners find little room, as gentle sections are scarce and the area really suits confident intermediates. Much of the cover rests on man-made snow, and reviewers argue about rocks - one complained of narrow, stony stretches, while others insist the base is solid. Evening life and apres-ski in Chepelare are modest.
