Mission Ridge rises above Wenatchee on the dry eastern side of the Cascades. Pacific storms give up most of their moisture on the western ranges first, so the snow here falls noticeably lighter and drier than at the crowded resorts near Seattle, and the sun shows up more often.

A good share of the resort's life happens after dark: the lights run Wednesday through Saturday until about nine, from late December to the end of February. Two terrain parks serve freestylers, and snowmaking covers the mountain from summit to base. There is no fixed day ticket price - it moves with the month, the day of the week and how many tickets have already sold.

What visitors say about the resort

The praise is for the snow quality: it falls drier and lighter than at the resorts further west in the state, and the wide groomed cruisers are rated among the best carving terrain in the Northwest. Short lift lines are another favourite - the distance from Seattle keeps crowds down and most junctions offer a choice of lifts. Visitors also like the bubble-equipped Wenatchee Express, parking right by the base, the unpretentious crowd and cheap children tickets.

Snow quantity draws criticism: annual totals run at roughly half of what western Washington areas get, and the season leans on snowmaking. Expert terrain is thin, the mogul runs short, and the best lines need a hike. Beginners feel boxed in too, with the green runs clustered under one short lift at the base. The old fixed-grip doubles are awkward to unload, with nowhere to go if a partner falls. The base area and dining are modest.
