The praise was for snow and quiet: the village sits away from mass tourism at the eastern entrance to the Tannheim valley and counted as one of the more snow-sure spots in the area. Reviews used to split the hill by ability - powder skiers headed for the Almboden lift, beginners practised on the Tennenberg lift, and the run off the Krinnenalpe chairlift suited confident skiers. Even without lifts the bowl still attracts ski tourers and snowshoe walkers.
The decisive problem is that the lifts no longer run. They stood idle for years, opening hours had already been cut and the Sonnenlift had been out of service far longer, and for the first time in more than half a century no lift turns here in winter. Unprofitability and the failure to find a qualified operations manager were both given as reasons, and guesthouse owners report a clear drop in bookings.
