Passo Fedaia - Marmolada

What people praised was above all the ride up: the old cabin line from the Fedaia pass carried visitors to Pian dei Fiacconi below the Marmolada glacier in about a quarter of an hour. They valued the panorama over the dam and Lake Fedaia, the glacier slopes, the Pian dei Fiacconi refuge that still holds on, and the emptiness: queues were unheard of.

The criticism comes down to the central fact: there is nothing left to ski here. The final run of the Fedaia to Pian dei Fiacconi line took place on 15 September 2019, after which it closed for good and the remains of the old towers were cleared away. Resort catalogues show zero lifts turning and zero per cent of the runs open. A replacement gondola has been discussed for years but is stuck on the granting of a concession, and the valley talks of lost jobs. The slopes can be reached only on foot or on touring skis.
