Arabba/Marmolada

Arabba is praised for its share of modern high-speed lifts, higher than anywhere else on the Sellaronda, which means serious queues are rare. The long runs down into Arabba and to Malga Ciapela below the Marmolada stand out as steeper and longer than typical Dolomite pistes, and the glacier descent is rated the longest groomed run in the range. The two-way Arabba Fly, which saves walking across the village, is another favourite.

The Marmolada and Porta Vescovo cable cars draw the sharpest criticism: in high season, and above all after a snowfall, the queue at Malga Ciapela can be horrendous. The timetable irritates too, since the cable car shuts at 4pm and there is no way back to Canazei. Several local chairlifts are overdue for replacement, the refuges have slipped in service, and apres-ski is close to non-existent.
