Ponte di Legno/Tonale/Presena Glacier/Temù (Pontedilegno-Tonale)

The area crosses the Tonale pass from the Lombard Valcamonica into Trentino and climbs to the Presena glacier at nearly three thousand metres, which is why skiing here starts in early November and ends in late May. The Tonale pass was a First World War front line: the White War was fought here from 1915 to 1918, and the retreating ice still gives up equipment and the remains of soldiers, collected in the local museum. From Ponte di Legno and Temù below, the skiing runs through forest; up top it crosses open glacier. The longest descent, from Passo Presena down to Ponte di Legno, runs for eleven kilometres.
