Sinaia lies in the Bucegi mountains above the Prahova valley and counts among Romania's principal ski destinations. Cable cars lift you to a plateau above 2,000 metres, where the slopes are wide and gentle and you often find yourself above the clouds. Only hard runs drop towards the town, so beginners are advised to ride the gondola back down. The town itself is known for Peleș Castle, the summer residence of Romania's kings, built at the end of the nineteenth century.
