What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the views and the ride up: the Stoos funicular is an attraction in its own right, and the car-free village at the top is unusually quiet. From the Fronalpstock a full circle of Lake Lucerne and a dozen other lakes opens up. The skiing means the wide treeless flanks of Klingenstock and Fronalpstock, rated among the most enjoyable intermediate terrain in the region, and by Swiss standards the pass is cheap.
Size and the closed layout draw criticism: two or three days exhaust the area, and for a full holiday there is too little skiing and too little to do off the slopes. No run descends to the valley, so the way back down is the funicular or cable car regardless. The summit slopes are uniformly medium difficulty, which leaves beginners uneasy. On Saturdays and in high season the funicular builds a queue and the cars run packed, and the Fronalpstock lift costs extra.
