Sunshine and children are what people praise. Brunni faces south above Engelberg and is reckoned the sunniest ski area in central Switzerland, and crucially it is calmer and simpler than Titlis. Beginners get the Yeti Park at Ristis, higher up and therefore more snow-sure, plus Klostermatte down by the village, with two large ski schools. Above the triple chair sits Schonegg, the steepest surface lift in Switzerland. The Berglodge Ristis is praised for its terrace, playroom and prices reasonable by Swiss standards.
The narrow offering and the snow lower down bring criticism. The area is small and a confident skier exhausts it in half a day. The Brunni valley run has no snowmaking and is the first thing to suffer. Reviews complain about stones surfacing on the slopes and about days when the pistes turn into nothing but hard moguls. Getting up the mountain is not cheap either.
