Price and calm are the draws: the day pass is among the cheapest in the Lucerne region, the staff are helpful and on weekdays there is no waiting at the lift. The place is liked for what it offers children - gentle slopes, play areas for small ones, a long toboggan run and a suspension bridge people walk without skis.
The snow, and the shrinking of the skiing itself, draw criticism. The area lies low, the snow goes soft, and the drag lifts are steep for a beginner. On Saturdays local race clubs fill the hill and the queue builds with no orderly system. The bigger problem: the operator shut down the Bärenfang and Hochstuckli drag lifts for lack of snow, leaving only Engelstock in service, and voters in the municipality of Sattel rejected a 530,000 franc credit to bring one of them back. The focus moved to the gentle Mostelberg-Engelstock area, so proper skiing here is gone.
