The ski area rises from 3,000 to 3,670 m, with a vertical drop of 670 m. The vertical drop is enough for long descents with noticeable changes in terrain. The upper pistes are at high altitude, so snow lasts longer than on the lower slopes nearby. The season usually runs from 19 June to 18 October.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the short hop from Santiago and the standard of the hotels, and for the snow: Valle Nevado is reckoned the snowiest of the Central Valley resorts, and after a storm there are days of powder, especially midweek. Reviewers note well-groomed trails and virtually no lift lines, Chile's only gondola and a genuine high-speed lift, links to El Colorado and La Parva in clear weather, and solid food with half board in the packages.
Cost draws criticism: on-mountain lodging is expensive and the resort is markedly pricier than Portillo, Corralco or Chillan. Strong skiers miss the pitch - there are only about six true black runs, and the serious terrain is unmarked and unpatrolled. The back side runs on ageing platter lifts that guests say are driven too fast and injure riders, and the only facility out there is an outhouse. The access road is dozens of hairpins and potholes.
