Winter Park Resort
1 / 15Winter Park Resort is in Colorado, United States. It has 143 km of pistes, 22 lifts and terrain from 2,743 to 3,676 m.
Trail information
Winter Park has belonged to the City of Denver since 1940 - a rare municipal ski area - and you can reach it by train straight from Union Station, through the Moffat Tunnel under the Continental Divide. The skiing splits into seven sectors, of which Mary Jane is famous for its bumps: those runs are deliberately left ungroomed, and the local motto "No Pain, No Jane" was earned. Most of the terrain sits below the tree line, with the Parsenn Bowl and Vasquez Cirque opening up above it. The snow is natural: only a tenth of the pistes have snowmaking.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise centres on Mary Jane: its moguls are called the best in Colorado, if not the country, with tree runs and chutes right beside them. On the Winter Park side, reviewers note how well it works for families and how strong the ski school is. Snowfall beats most of its neighbours, and the drive from Denver avoids the congested I-70.
Wind draws the criticism: the mountain is exposed, the upper lifts often stop, and some chairs are old and slow, which makes the ride punishing in cold weather. The second complaint is crowds and the chaotic parking at Mary Jane at weekends. In lean winters the Mary Jane chutes and glades turn hard and unpleasant.
