Abetone is praised for access: an hour and a half from Florence or Modena makes it Tuscany's only real ski mountain. Lift passes and lodging are described as genuinely inexpensive. Reviewers speak well of the grooming crews and the snowmaking, which in mild winters keep the season alive. Val di Luce is rated the best sector, cooler, with snow that lasts longest.
Worn-out hardware draws the criticism: the lifts are old and slow, and the seat upholstery on the Riva line was called ruined. A separate saga concerns the municipal lifts Le Regine-Selletta, Riva and the Gomito drag, which stood idle at the start of a season while the concession tender dragged on, breaking the link between sectors; they were later signed off after testing and restarted. Complaints also cover icy connecting paths with no grit or handrails, exposed rock when cover is thin, and prices out of line with the service.
