Bayerischer Wald is a low mountain range in eastern Germany, along the border with the Czech Republic. Its peaks barely exceed 1,500 m, but the area lies away from the warm westerly winds, so snow lasts longer here than in the rest of Bavaria outside the Alps.

The area's main mountain is Arber, the highest point in Bayerischer Wald and a venue for the junior Alpine Skiing World Cup. Nearby are Mitterdorf and Immenstadt- small family ski areas with short pistes and low prices.
