Bellwald stands on a sunny terrace above the Rhône valley and is the highest municipality in the Goms at 1,600 metres. There is no road up: a small cable car from Fürgangen carries you to the village. The area is quiet and family-minded, five lifts, with wide and mostly easy runs and a longest descent from the Furggulti of six kilometres. Around it stand the Valais peaks, and a little further east up the valley the Aletsch glacier begins.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the calm and for the uphill kit: a detachable six-seater with weather hoods runs from the valley, a four-seater takes over higher up, and queues are rare. Visitors single out dependable snow, neatly groomed main runs, the sunny shelf above the Goms valley with its long views, and an unhurried family atmosphere. The free car park at the top station of the village cable car, with a ski bus to the slopes, also gets a mention.
Criticism starts with the size: two or three days and you have seen it all. The village cable car is called dated, and season after season people complain about grooming on the red run back to the valley station and on the beginners' drag lift, where ice and deep ruts make life hard for children and novices. Apres-ski and village facilities are thin, guests describe the locals as reserved, and parking right at the slopes in Gassen is chargeable.
