Grüsch-Danusa lies at the mouth of the Prättigau valley next to Landquart and the motorway, and it builds everything around family skiing. The heart of the area is Berghaus Schwänzelegg at the top, with a children's zone of conveyor belts, a sledging run and the start of the cross-country and snowshoe trails; you can also stay the night right in the middle of the slopes.

The lower half runs through thick forest, the upper half opens into gentle wide fields. For variety there are two fun parks, a permanent race piste and a ski cross. The lifts do not run in the evening, but on Thursdays from five to nine two groomed pistes open for ski touring.

What visitors say about the resort

The praise is for the family focus and the quiet: people come here for relaxed skiing, and the children area with its magic carpets, ski carousel and rides is called one of the finest in Switzerland. Zurich, St. Gallen and Lake Constance are about an hour away. The bowl is sheltered from the foehn and rated avalanche-safe, the main slopes have snowmaking, and the season averages around seventy sunny days. Signposting is clear, and there is a snowpark and a toboggan run.

Stagnation is what draws criticism: guests write that the area is lovely but dated, with nothing really renewed while tariffs climb year after year. Parking is a sore point of its own - a serious sum for a day, and not in a garage but on a gravel lot, with a charge even for bringing a dog. One report describes only two lifts running despite good snow, with no warning at the ticket window. Apres-ski is clearly missed.
