Parsenn is the largest of the five Davos and Klosters areas, and its lift is older than most in the Alps: the Parsennbahn funicular opened in 1931 and carried Europe's first downhill skiers. The signature run drops from the Weissfluhgipfel to Küblis - twelve kilometres and over two thousand metres of vertical, after which the Rhaetian Railway brings you back. At the Weissfluhjoch stands the SLF snow and avalanche research institute, which has issued Switzerland's avalanche forecasts since 1936. The slopes are mostly wide and intermediate, though genuinely steep terrain opens up above Gotschna.

The praise is for the long runs: the Parsenn is a classic mountain for long, wide descents, and with enough snow you can ride twelve kilometres from the Weissfluh summit down to Küblis. Most of the terrain is red, giving confident skiers room, and there is plenty of off-piste. The lifts are good, and once you are up it is easy to leave the crowd behind.
Morning queues draw the criticism: in peak weeks a noticeable line builds at the Parsennbahn funicular, and an early start pays. Prices are Davos ones, which is to say high, and the region is spread out, so moving between its sectors eats time.
