Hündle/Thalkirchdorf (Oberstaufen)

The modern eight-person gondola and the broad, gentle, carefully groomed runs are what reviewers like, and the area works well for children and beginners. A single pass covers the whole link, the main run at the Schwandlift is floodlit several evenings a week for late skiing, and there are decent places to eat: the alpine hut with its sunny terrace and the spot by the Thalkirchdorf lifts both get mentions. Prices are considered fair.

The runs are short and easy, the vertical is modest, and a strong skier is soon bored, although the descents to the gondola base station are noticeably steeper. The low altitude means the skiing leans on snowfall and the guns. At peak times a queue builds at the gondola, and reviewers ask for the Thalkirchdorf access to be opened more often to spread the load.
