Andelsbuch Niedere

The quiet is the selling point: there are no crowds, the terrain is gentle and easy to keep an eye on, which makes it a good fit for families with children. From the top the view runs across the whole Bregenzerwald as far as Lake Constance. Powder hunters come for the Andelsbuch side and the spring firn descents towards Sonderdach, and the mountain is popular with ski tourers and snowshoers; a long toboggan run drops from Baumgarten.

The state of the plant is what gets criticised. The chairlift from Andelsbuch was shut down after a fatal accident in which a passenger slipped from a chair, and it never reopened - access is now by the cable car on the Bezau side. Skiing rests on drag lifts around forty years old, with no plans to renew them, while a new chairlift would cost more than ten million euros that nobody has found. All of it runs only when there is genuinely enough snow.
