The Silvretta Arena crosses an international border: the lifts of Ischgl in the Austrian Paznaun connect with Samnaun in Switzerland, still a duty-free enclave that skiers reach on their skis. Between the two runs the world's only double-decker aerial tramway. The base sits at 1,360 m and the top at almost 2,900, so snow holds from late November into early May without much help from the guns. Ischgl is known for something else as well: the Top of the Mountain concerts that open and close the season, and an après-ski scene that starts at the lift station.

What visitors say about the resort
Ischgl is praised for a combination rarely found in one place: more than 200 km of pistes at elevations from 1,400 to 2,900 m, modern lifts almost without exception, and snow that lasts until the end of April. Duty-free Samnaun on the Swiss side is a separate attraction, with visitors skiing there directly for shopping.
There are two main complaints. The first is après-ski: concerts and bars make the resort noisy, and families with children often recommend choosing quieter neighbours. The second is the prices: both the lift pass and accommodation in Ischgl are above the Austrian average. Visitors also complain about morning queues for the lifts from the village - locals recommend starting from Fimmjoha.
