Lake Louise sits inside Banff National Park, and there is no base village at all - park rules forbid it: the hotels stand a few kilometres away by the lake itself. The front side of the mountain, facing the valley, runs through forest; behind the ridge open the Backbowls, wide treeless cirques that draw people for off-piste. The area opens as one of the first in Canada, in early November, and runs into May. From the runs you can see the glaciers of the Victoria range and the turquoise lake that gave the resort its name.

What visitors say about the resort
Lake Louise is praised for its views: skiing in Banff National Park with panoramas of the turquoise lake and glaciers. Visitors note the dry Rocky Mountain snow, varied terrain on all four sides of the mountain and the lack of lift queues.
The main complaints concern the cold: minus 30 is not unusual here, and skiing becomes a challenge on such days. The second issue is accommodation: it is expensive and scarce in the park, so many visitors stay in Banff and take the bus.
