Nakiska was built for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, forty-five minutes away, and has run as an ordinary resort ever since. Mount Allan stands in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, exposed and windy, and natural snow is not enough for it: those Games were the first to need snowmaking on a large scale, and the coverage here is still near-total. The runs are mostly wide, well-groomed intermediates, served by fast lifts.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for how close Nakiska is to Calgary and for prices: both the day ticket and the season pass undercut the neighbours. Reviewers mention the large free car park, decent food in the day lodge and the high-speed chairs that keep lines short. There is a self-contained learning area on a slow double chair, long cruisers and steep groomers, and a terrain park considered well laid out. Snowmaking covers almost every run.
Wind is the main complaint: the face is exposed and several visitors describe a bitter headwind on the lifts ruining the day. That same exposure scours the snow, and fresh falls can be weeks apart, so nobody comes here for powder. Green terrain is thin, roughly one route down from each lower lift, and it gets congested given how many families ski here. Weekends are busy because of the Calgary traffic, and the skiing is often rated a step below nearby Norquay.
