Sunshine Village lies in the heart of Banff National Park and can only be reached by gondola: a twenty-minute ride from the valley car park up to the village at 2,160 m. There is essentially no snowmaking and none is needed - the snow is natural, arriving in early November and lasting into late May. At the top of Lookout Mountain the provincial boundary crosses the slope, and one run drops away into British Columbia. The best-known feature is Delirium Dive, which you may only enter with a transceiver, a shovel and a partner.

What visitors say about the resort
The praise is for the snow: the cover here is among the most dependable in Canada, the season runs longer than almost anywhere in North America, and good snow is nearly always to be found on at least one of the three mountains. Outside weekends and Christmas week there are hardly any queues. Strong skiers come for Delirium Dive, entered over a fifty-degree cornice and open only to those with avalanche gear and a partner.
Weather draws the criticism: the summits of all three mountains are routinely blasted by wind, which ruins the snow, and in cold spells the temperature drops below minus thirty. The second complaint is the approach: driving from Banff, then parking, then riding the gondola takes nearly an hour before the first run. There are also flat sections that must be carried with speed or walked.
