Lindvallen and Högfjället are two neighbouring hills of the Sälen district in Swedish Dalarna, joined by lifts and runs. The vertical is tiny, but there are close to sixty lifts and the slopes are wide and gentle: people come with children, and the share of blue runs is higher than almost anywhere in Europe. Lindvallen has a curiosity of its own - the world's first ski-through McDonald's, opened right by the piste in 1996. The season holds from mid-November into early May thanks to snowmaking and the northern climate.

What visitors say about the resort
The children's setup gets the loudest approval: the learning zone at Lindvallen is billed as the largest in Europe. Högfjället is made up almost entirely of green and blue runs, which makes life simple for families. All grades are nonetheless represented, with three black pistes over in Lindvallen. Apres-ski is loud in the Scandinavian way, with live bands playing across several venues and Sälens Högfjällshotell known for its regular gigs.
Crowds and queues are the main target of complaints: Lindvallen packs out in season and guests name lift waits as the biggest drawback. The second objection is sameness - the runs sit side by side, funnel down to the same point and repeat a very similar shape. Hence the charge of a faceless layout: everything is lined up in a row, leaving little room for the skier's own imagination.
