Parâng rises above the mining town of Petroșani in the Southern Carpathians, and it is a rare Romanian case where the skiing reaches above the treeline: the upper slopes are open, with wide fields for free skiing. The A run is floodlit in the evening.

The resort has been through a long pause. The old 1973 chairlift stopped in July 2024 and Parâng effectively stood idle through the 2024/25 winter; by January 2026 both lines were turning again. The tariff is set by Petroșani town hall, which also maintains the lifts.

What visitors say about the resort

The praise is for the long season and the scenery: snow lingers in the Parang longer than at neighbouring resorts, and the views over the Southern Carpathians are rated among Romania's finest. Regulars from Petrosani and the instructors value the quiet - none of the scrum of the big Romanian centres. The relatively new chairlift, the half-dozen runs and the separate sledging area for children all get a mention.

Infrastructure that keeps failing draws the criticism. The old chairlift, half a century old, broke down and the resort emptied without it; the new one has stopped too, idle for over a week in high season because of a faulty part, with the maker in Austria asked for help. A third lift with a run of over two kilometres has been stalled for years over land permits, and abandoned hotels stand around: investors left and in winter the place is all but cut off.
