The praise is for the price and the food: lodging costs far less than in the Alps, and the local cooking gets separate mention in the reviews. This is the largest ski area in central and southern Italy, and there is terrain enough, including real black runs and off-piste options. Weekdays are roomy, and Rome is only two and a half hours away.
Inconsistent snow draws the criticism: in some winters there is more of it here than in the Alps, in others almost none - the Apennines are unpredictable that way. The second complaint is weekends: a lot of tickets get sold, the easy runs get crowded, and the lift queues are a shoving match.
