Skeikampen lies thirty kilometres from Lillehammer in the Gausdal valley, and its summit is among the highest in the district. A hooded eight-seat chair serves the top, the rest of the lifts being simpler. The vertical is small, a little over three hundred metres, with wide open runs. The resort is thoroughly family-oriented: nearly all the lodging stands at the slopes, and the ski school teaches telemark and cross-country alongside alpine. Around it runs a network of cross-country trails that brings in close to half the guests.

Reliable snow tops the list: locals call this the most snow-sure area in the Gudbrandsdalen valley, and the season holds up well. There is more off-piste than the trail map admits, untracked lines can be found days after a storm, and the upper mountain has steeper pitches. The lifts are modern and cross the valley quickly. Families rate the children's area with its covered conveyors and carousel, the gentle slopes at the base, the floodlit park and parking close to everything.
Size is the sticking point: the area is small, the descents short, the vertical modest, and skiers used to bigger resorts say plainly that they wanted more. The mountain is exposed and noticeably weather-dependent, so rough days are unpleasant. Apres-ski is low-key and the mood stays quiet, with evening entertainment laid on only on selected dates, mostly over holidays and weekends.
