Wetterstein and the Mieming Range lie on the border between Germany and Austria and are home to Germany's highest point - Zugspitze, at 2,962 m. Limestone walls rise directly above the valley, making the vertical drop look more impressive than the figures suggest.
Zugspitze- Germany's only glacier ski area, open from November to May. At its foot is Garmisch-Classic, home to the famous Kandahar piste, while on the Austrian side lies Ehrwald.
