What visitors say about the resort
The praise starts with the snow: it falls in such quantity that reviewers call the place a powder purist's dream, and the skiing runs through old-growth trees where powder keeps longest. The lack of polish counts as a virtue, with cheap lift tickets, an affordable ski school and a café named for years among the best mountain kitchens in Canada. Midweek the slopes are empty and Nelson is liked as a town with real character.
What draws criticism is infrastructure that buckles on the good days: powder mornings bring long lift lines, the car park fills and there is nowhere to sit in the lodge. The lifts are old and none of them fast. Beginners have a hard time, since the novice slope hangs off a rickety two-seater and there is little easy terrain. The ski area is only mid-sized, a full week can feel repetitive, and it is a long haul from the nearest major airport.
