Matterhorn Ski Paradise is one of the largest ski resorts in the world and the highest ski resort in the Alps, at almost 4,000 m. This winter sports area, with fantastic views of the Matterhorn, extends across two countries. Zermatt is the gateway on the Swiss side, while Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche are the gateways in Italy. Zermatt lies at 1,620 m above sea level and is surrounded by a total of 38 peaks over 4,000 m. All year round, mountain lovers and nature enthusiasts from around the world come to enjoy the refreshing qualities of this car-free resort environment. Breuil-Cervinia lies at 2,050 m above sea level and is also a very popular holiday destination. Matterhorn Ski Paradise offers snowy, perfectly groomed and very long pistes. In addition to the fantastic mountain scenery between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia, year-round skiing is also available. The highest and largest summer ski area in the Alps is Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, located on the Theodul Glacier.

This Swiss-Italian ski resort, with gateways in Zermatt, Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche, offers an excellent variety of pistes and very long runs at all difficulty levels.
In Zermatt, the pistes are spread across the high alpine areas of Rothorn, Blauherd, Sunnegga, Findeln, Stockhorn, Hohtälli, Gornergrat, Riffelberg and Riffelalp. The glacier pistes are in Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and extend from Klein Matterhorn, above the Theodul Glacier, to Trockener Steg. The pistes lead via Schwarzsee and Furi back to Zermatt. Most pistes offer magnificent views of the Matterhorn.
On the Italian side, the pistes are spread across the high alpine terrain around Theodul Pass, Cime Bianche, Plan Maison and Salette in the Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche areas.
Most of the pistes lie above the tree line. Only the runs down to Zermatt, Eja, Furi, Stafel and Valtournenche pass through the forest. Thanks to excellent grooming and wide pistes, skiing is particularly enjoyable.

There are valley runs from the pistes. The valley runs lead to Zermatt via the Sunnegga Express and Matterhorn Express. There are no runs leading to the Gornergrat base station or to the railway station in Zermatt. Several pistes lead directly to accommodation in Breuil-Cervinia. The valley run also leads to the gondola in Valtournenche.
Longest runs
The longest run here is Klein Matterhorn - Zermatt (Nos. 85, 84, 81, 73, 66, 64, 62, 50), 16 km long, with a vertical drop of 2,279 m. The pistes lead from Klein Matterhorn via the Theodul Glacier, Trockener Steg, Furgg and Furi to Zermatt.

Most difficult run
The most difficult run is Furgg-Furi (No. 62), 3 km long, with a vertical drop of 565 m. The run is very steep and leads through rocky terrain to Furi.

The ski resort is equipped with modern lifts on both the Swiss and Italian sides.
From Zermatt, an eight-person gondola takes guests to the ski area on Klein Matterhorn via four sections. The Gornergrat cog railway takes guests from Zermatt railway station to Gornergrat in around 30 minutes. The third option is the underground Sunnegga funicular. Modern chairlifts dominate the ski area itself. These lifts take guests quickly to higher elevations, but queues can sometimes form because of the large number of visitors.
In Breuil-Cervinia, lifts rise directly from the village. Most are modern chairlifts and gondolas. In Valtournenche, a gondola takes guests up to the ski area. Chairlifts are available for repeat runs.

What visitors say about the resort
Reviews describe Zermatt as a resort where everything comes together: the Matterhorn outside your window, skiing up to 3,900 m, access to Italian Cervinia on one lift pass and a car-free village. Visitors praise the long season - the glacier operates year-round - and the quality of piste grooming.
The main and almost only complaint is the price. The lift pass, accommodation and food in Zermatt are described as the most expensive in the Alps, and the advice to “have lunch on the Italian side” comes up repeatedly in reviews. The second issue is the distance: the ski area is huge, and getting around takes a lot of time. In bad weather, the upper lifts close and skiing is limited to the lower sectors.
