Val Gardena (Gröden)

Val Gardena winter sports resort, located in the heart of South Tyrol, offers a special holiday experience. Whether skiing the famous Saslong World Cup piste or relaxing in one of the rustic mountain huts, Val Gardena ski resort is always top class. There are pistes for all ability levels for skiers and snowboarders. They are served mainly by modern lifts. The latest highlight is the 10-person Piz Setëur aerial tramway, designed by Pininfarina and equipped with sophisticated technical features for greater comfort, safety and performance. Val Gardena ski resort is connected to the lifts and slopes in the neighbouring valleys by the Sellaronda tour. Sporting skiers can therefore look forward to a huge winter sports arena. Not to mention Val Gardena's two current and modern attractions.

Worth knowing

Pistes of all difficulty levels connect the slopes beneath Sassolungo in Val Gardena. Flat and steep pistes, easy and extremely challenging slopes alternate throughout the resort. The direct connection between the pistes and ski regions of the Fassa Valley, Arabba / Marmolada and Alta Badia, together with the proposed tour around the Sella Group (Sellaronda), creates an astonishing variety of slopes with limitless variations. The Sellaronda runs directly behind Selva Gardena and is easily accessible from St. Christina. Those wishing to reach the Sellaronda from Ortisei must first go up to Seceda (2518 m), then descend to St. Christina. Above St. Christina, take the Val Gardena Ronda Express to the Saslong lift, where you can start the Sellaronda. Funslopes, racecourses and speed measurement pistes can also be found throughout the ski resort.

Longest run

Seceda-Ortisei (La Longia) · Length 10.5 km · Vertical drop 1283 m . At 10.5 km, La Longia is one of the longest ski pistes in the Dolomites. It leads from Seceda (2518 m) to Ortisei (1235 m).

Most difficult run

Saslong · Length 3.4 km · Vertical drop 839 m.

Challenging slopes

Saslong. It is one of the great legends of skiing. Every year, a few days before Christmas, one of the world's most significant and spectacular speed races takes place here. The race starts at the Ciampinoi mountain station above Selva Gardena. You can ski down the course ridden by Bernhard Russi, Hermann Maier and Bode Miller over wide, perfectly groomed slopes, descend through the Camel Humps and the Ciaslat meadow to the finish line near the base station in St. Christina. At 3.4 kilometres long and with 839 vertical metres, it is simply unmissable.

Resort routes

Sellaronda - a panoramic tour around the Sella Group. During the 5 - 6 hours required for the tour, you will pass through the ski regions of Alta Badia, Arabba / Marmolada and the Fassa Valley. The Sellaronda can be skied in two different directions. The higher and more challenging orange route runs clockwise, while the green route runs counter-clockwise.

Val Gardena Ronda - this route takes you across the most beautiful slopes, accompanied by spectacular views of the Dolomites and Sassolungo.

Culturonda - a ski tour of Val Gardena's cultural attractions.

Gherdëina Skiring - this tour takes skiers to Alpe di Seceda and Sella Cuca, to Ferns, then to Col Raiser, the Saslong piste, Piz Sella and, finally, Dantercepies.

1970 World Championship slopes - more than 30 years ago, ski racing history was written on the slopes of Val Gardena at the 1970 World Championships. A top tour! Today, these slopes are among the area's special attractions. A day tour starting in Ortisei, St. Christina or Selva Gardena will take you along the course of the 1970 World Championships!
