Kleine Scheidegg/Männlichen - Grindelwald/Wengen

Kleine Scheidegg/Männlichen is the largest ski resort in the Bernese Alps and the Jungfrau region. While skiing, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Grindelwald, a rack railway leads to Kleine Scheidegg, while a gondola lift leads to Männlichen.

The car-free mountain village of Wengen is a popular skiing destination. Wengen can be reached from Lauterbrunnen by rack railway. From Wengen, you can take the aerial cableway to Männlichen or the railway to Kleine Scheidegg. The winter sports region offers perfectly groomed pistes, an advanced snowmaking system and modern chairlifts.

The Jungfrau Railway leads from Kleine Scheidegg via the Eiger and Mönch to Jungfraujoch, home to Europe's highest railway station at 3454 m, the Top of Europe. The Sphinx Observatory is located here at an altitude of 3571 m and is the highest and most distinctive building on Jungfraujoch. It offers magnificent views of the Aletsch Glacier and the Bernese Oberland. In clear weather, you can see as far as the Vosges and the Black Forest. There are no descents from Jungfraujoch, so you must return to the valley.

Winter hiking trails, sledding runs and excellent childcare services complement the offering in Grindelwald and Wengen.

Good to know

Kleine Scheidegg/Männlichen offers a variety of pistes for all levels of ability. Long pistes lead to Grindelwald and Wengen. Lauberhorn and Männlichen have wide, treeless slopes. The breathtaking panorama of the mighty Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau will impress skiers and snowboarders. Freeride fans have a large unmarked area.

Connection information

The first ski resort is located on the other side of Grindelwald and can be reached by ski bus.

70% of the pistes have snowmaking facilities.

There is a valley run from the pistes. Several valley runs with snowmaking equipment lead to Grindelwald-Grund and Wengen. The valley run to Wengen starts at Kleine Scheidegg. It is not possible to ski from Männlichen to Wengen, and there is no valley run to Lauterbrunnen.

Longest piste

The longest descent here is Lauberhorn-Grindelwald, 13 km long, with a vertical drop of 1380 m. The piste leads from Lauberhorn to Kleine Scheidegg, then continues along a long, easy slope beside the Wengernalp lift via Alpiglen and Brandegg. The piste ends at Grindelwald-Grund.

Most difficult piste

The most difficult is Oh God No. 27, 1.3 km long, with a vertical drop of 450 m. The piste leads from the Eiger Glacier down to Wengernalp, with a gradient of up to 71%.

Snowparks

There is no snowpark or fun park.

There is no halfpipe.

From Grindelwald Grund, you can take the railway to Kleine Scheidegg or the gondola to Männlichen.

From Lauterbrunnen, the rack railway runs to Kleine Scheidegg via Wengen. It is a good idea to note the departure time of the rack railway or check the timetable, as it only runs every 30 minutes.

The Jungfrau Railway climbs from Kleine Scheidegg via the Eiger and Mönch to Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station at 3454 m. The train covers 9.34 km and almost 1400 m of vertical gain. An additional ticket is required for the journey to Jungfraujoch; it is not included in the lift pass.
