Grooming is what wins people over: by morning everything is rolled flat, the runs are wide with an even gradient, and heavy snowmaking keeps the season going whatever the weather. The lift system is modern, including a ten-seat gondola, and queues rarely pass a quarter of an hour. The snow park that has hosted freestyle world events gets special mention, and ski schools cost far less than in Tyrol.
The absence of anything steep draws criticism: there are no genuinely hard descents, so strong skiers get bored quickly. The mountain is low, the lower slopes turn slushy in a thaw, and when cover is good the local and Hungarian holidays make it busy. Some guests find the pass overpriced for the amount of terrain. The mountain huts struck a few visitors as impersonal and over-modern, there is no night skiing, and nightlife means a trip to Murau.
