The Turracher Höhe lies on the pass between Styria and Carinthia at 1,763 m, with the village set on the shore of a mountain lake and lifts rising from the water's edge on both sides. A circuit of around twelve kilometres runs around the lake and can be skied in a day. Snowmaking covers a hundred per cent and the season is among Austria's longest, lasting into early May. A local invention is the Pisten-Butler, who tours the slopes all day handing out Prosecco to adults and sweets to children.

What visitors like is the space: the slopes stay uncrowded and waiting at the lifts is minimal thanks to modern high-speed chairs. New lift installations and carefully groomed pistes come up again and again in reviews. The plateau setting beside Lake Turrach keeps snow cover dependable through the core of the season. Parking costs nothing, and the service earns its own praise - a ski butler tours the area handing out tissues, sweets and even a glass of prosecco.
The price tag is what gets criticised: reviewers call it one of the costliest areas in the country and question whether the size of the ski area justifies it. Parking is the second recurring complaint - it is free, but on busy days actually finding a space is a struggle. The third is remoteness: it is what keeps the crowds away, yet from several directions the drive is far longer than to the better-known Tyrolean resorts.
